We're nearly half way there.
It should be obvious that this work shouldn't be attempted by anyone other than the most skilled craftsman. The integrity of the workmanship is otherwise compromised.
Back to the soundboard press to install new bridges on the top side of the soundboard. A little upper body strength is an asset when fitting on the bow bars. The force they maintain insures the proper pressure for a solid bond.
After the new soundboard is installed, it is necessary to measure for proper downbearing and mark a string pattern on the new bridges. The plate is temporarily lowered into the piano and removed again after this step is completed.
The bridges are now carefully shaped by hand with dangerously sharp chisels, drilled with exacting precision, burnished and pinned by hand, another process that can't be rushed.
